Superman is a B&M flying coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia, built in 2002. It was the 2nd flying coaster built by B&M and the first in North America. It became such a popular ride, that Six Flags added clones of the ride at 2 other parks, Great Adventure in New Jersey and Great America in Illinois.
After getting off the bumper cars, you decide you want to take your thrills up a notch, so you walk next door into Metropolis. Enter through the cool S-shield (Superman logo) and stand in the most likely long line. The queue is very interactive; there are lots of signs with all kinds of facts about characters in Superman comics. Also, the coaster itself flies right over the queue giving great near miss elements and a cool thing to watch while waiting.
After waiting in a line that probably seemed like 3 hours long, board the very comfortable trains that are so relaxing after standing for so long. The trains lift up and you exit the station to the lift hill. You can let your arms hang down and look all around you. Then fly down the curved drop that really makes you feel like you're flying. Next is the highlight of the ride, the pretzel loop! This element is super forceful and scares the crap out of the average person. Go through a helix around the pretzel loop and dive under the brake run and just above the queue line. Overbank and then overbank again. Now fly through a tunnel and helix up right up close to the ground. Flip over through a twist and enter the brakes.
Now that was an awesome ride. Superman is so good about making you feel like you're actually flying. It's smooth and intense and I think everyone enjoys it. This is my 3rd favorite coaster in the park, and it is definitely a fun ride. Some people may think this coaster is just good and not much more. Well, the clones at Great Adventure and Great America are on flat grass with no terrain. The one at Georgia is really superior to those others. The terrain makes the ride more intense and intersting. And the placement of the queues also adds a little near miss element.
The only complaints I have on this ride is it's a short ride and it ends pretty quickly, there is always a super long line, and I do wish it had a few more elements. It's drop, pretzel loop, turn and dive, overbank, overbank, helix, and twist.
My overall rate: 8.6/10
